An average of 38 MLD is currently purified. There is a total of 20 elevated reservoirs in town with a total holding capacity of 55000m3. All the reservoirs are controlled by a telemetry system. The town is divided in 12 distribution zones and water is distributed through 266km pipeline. There are 19 booster pump stations throughout the distribution system that is operated by the telemetry system.
Due to the topography, pressures in the network are controlled by use of pressure control valves. There are currently 56 pressure control valves in Mbombela City (Nelspruit). There are 244km waterborne sewer lines throughout Nelspruit with 22 sewage pumping stations. Sewage is treated at the Kingstonvale Sewer Treatment works situated 7km outside of Mbombela City (Nelspruit), adjacent to the Crocodile River in which the treated effluent is discharged.
